Biography
Xin Xia is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Georgia’s AI4STEM Education Center. Her work focuses on AI-enhanced scientific inquiry, with an emphasis on designing intelligent learning environments that support students in asking questions, analyzing data, and constructing evidence-based explanations.
She designs and develops AI-driven tools—such as LabAgent, INquiryAgent, and ArguAgent—that provide adaptive feedback and scaffold students’ engagement in authentic scientific practices aligned with NGSS. Her research integrates learning sciences, artificial intelligence, and STEM education to better understand how AI can function as a collaborative partner in K–12 classrooms.
Xin Xia has also collaborated with researchers at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) on projects focused on advancing AI-supported assessment and feedback in science education. This collaboration centers on developing and evaluating automated scoring and adaptive feedback systems for students’ open-ended scientific explanations, grounded in learning progressions and evidence-centered design.
Xin earned her Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Virginia and holds a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Johns Hopkins University. Her work focuses on bridging emerging AI technologies with equitable and meaningful science learning experiences.
